Prof.  Fritz ter Wey

Professor of Detmold University of Music, Germany

Fritz ter Wey (born December 5, 1943 in Aachen ) has succeeded Kurt Thomas and Alexander Wagner as Professor and Head of the Department of Choral Conducting and Choir Education at the Detmold University of Music . Among other things, he is the founder and director of the nationally and internationally recognized ensembles of the young chor aachen and modus novus .

His own concept as a choir director and choir educator was largely shaped by three musical personalities who were his teachers and role models: Hermann Schroeder ( Cologne ), Felix de Nobel ( Amsterdam ) and Eric Ericson ( Stockholm ). The focus of his artistic work is in the range of a cappella - Choral Music of the 20th century. A number of CD productions and over 60 radio productions for domestic and foreign broadcasters prove his commitment and justify his reputation in this field. His recordings of choral works by Ernst Krenek and Paul Hindemith in particular were widely recognized by experts. Fritz ter Wey has been a course leader and guest conductor at international festivals and choir courses for almost 30 years. Since 1982 he has been regularly active as a choir and studio director at Europa Cantat , one of the most important European choir meetings. Guest conductors connected and connect him with national and international radio choirs. Fritz ter Wey has also made a name for himself as an internationally respected and sought-after leader of choral conducting courses and as a juror in numerous choir competitions. Numerous contemporary composers (including Henk Badings , Jürg Baur , Vic Nees and Raymond Schroyens ) have composed for his ensembles or have entrusted them with world premieres. Ter Wey was a music teacher at the Aachen Pius-Gymnasium and at the Aachen Kaiser-Karls-Gymnasium .
